As we come to the end of the Book of 1 Peter, a book that has focused much on the trials and persecutions of life, and yet the wonder of the victory of Jesus, we are encouraged one more time with the certain promise that we are not to go through this life alone. Instead, the Lord places us within the church, where we learn find not only help in time of need, but a place where our gifts work together for His glory!
Be encouraged, as you remember that we go through this life together!
Standing in True Grace – Together
1 Peter 5:12-14
Series: 1 Peter
Rev. James McDonald
- What does “in which you stand” call you to do?
- What is the true grace of God?
- Why is this important in light of the theme of this book?
- How is apostolic authority modeled in verse 12?
- Who was Silvanus? What do we know about him?
- What does his example encourage us to do in our community?
- Who was the woman of Babylon? What does this say of Christian community?
- And, who was Mark? What do we know of him? Why is his inclusion in Peter’s salutation encouraging?
- What was a kiss of love? Is this a new sacrament? If not, what does this mean for us?
- Peter calls for peace in Christian community. What is the basis of this peace? How can you practice this?
How we thank You for Your mercy, O gracious Father, in giving us another day of life. And so we again dedicate both our souls and our bodies to You and Your service, to live sober, righteous, and godly lives. We ask that You would strengthen us, O merciful God, that as we grow in age, we may grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And, empower us by the Holy Spirit to live for You, and live together, for Your glory and the expanse of Your kingdom.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
